Over 5400 Hoosiers are diagnosed with Breast Cancer every year. Over 900 of us die.* Hoosier Breast Cancer Advocates are on a mission
to change this statistic and save lives by supporting bi-partisan legislation that positively impacts the Breast Cancer Community in Indiana.

About Us
Hoosier Breast Cancer Advocates came about after Heather Pirowski was diagnosed with Stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2020. Her son, Alex, was researching the current Indiana Dense Breast Notification Law and decided to do his AP Research Project his senior year in high school on this subject. This research project resulted in over 1400 Hoosier Women (over the age of 40) taking the survey which concluded that over 60% did not understand the current law nor that dense breast tissue masks cancer in mammograms.
This information was shared with Carrie Cagnassola, also a breast cancer survivor, retired Eli Lilly lawyer/pharmacist and advocate who worked on the current Indiana DBN Law which was passed in 2016. Together, they formed Hoosier Breast Cancer Advocates.
